"Prior to being awarded, Homes & Son did extensive research on straw bale construction, and held seminars to educate subcontractors so as to dissuade any fear of the unknown and keep costs down. The 'on time and under budget' completion of our project was certainly a much appreciated accomplishment."

Uniquely designed of straw bales in a post & beam frame, this was the largest commercial straw bale building in the nation when constructed. Architectural finishes included a smooth plaster skin, butt edged clerestory windows, a cathedral window showcasing the view of the Boulders, and natural products incorporated throughout. The project was located on an environmentally sensitive site and included preservation and relocation of hundreds of native plants and cacti. The road improvement project included adding turn islands and lanes, traffic signals, landscaping and striping.

Foothills Academy College Preparatory is over 20,000 square feet including a 6 acre site development plus 1 mile of improvements to Scottsdale Road. This project was constructed with environmentally friendly materials. It is considered to be one of the first Green Buildings in Scottsdale, Arizona.
